Château L’Arnaude is a 20 hectar (49 acre) vineyard in the heart of AOP Côtes-de-Provence in Southern France. Mr Torstenson was hired as consultant winemaker and advisor from 2006 to 2013 with the mission to improve the quality of the wines, review the vineyard’s portfolio strategy and improve overall profitability.
Mr. Torstenson improved wine quality by implementing new vinification programs, introducing new blending processes and new ways of working with oak barrels during the maturing process. The improved quality of the wine allowed Château L’Arnaude to perform successfully in wine competitions and thereby improve brand image. This, together with a clarified portfolio structure, lead to rising sales and improved profitability.
By the time the vineyard was sold in 2013, the average selling price per bottle and per liter had successfully been brought up and the goal of financial sustainability had been reached. Moreover, several of the vineyard’s wines had won awards in various wine competitions, including three consecutive gold medals for the flagship label “Château L’Arnaude Rouge” at the prestigious Concours Général held annually in Paris.
